Who is the devil?

During important celebrations in St.Peter’s Square with the presence of the Pope, i.e. Easter or during a canonisation, we can see an image of the Archangel Michael defeating Satan.41156689021_9be58780b5_b

The same image is also conserved inside the Basilica, as a mosaic, but unfortunately not visibile to visitors because it is located in the section northwest of the canopy, to an area where access is not allowed.

Fortunately the original painting, made by Guido Reni in 1636, is well visible in the Church of the Capuchins in Santa Maria dell’Immacolata Concezione at the beginning of Via Veneto in Rome.
